Traditionally, dentures have been the best choice for teeth replacement among patients who are missing a full upper or lower arch of teeth. But dentures can cause issues like gum recession and jaw bone loss, and usually require adjustment or replacement every 5 years for a secure fit. Some patients also find dentures uncomfortable and difficult to get used to. So if you’re not interested in dentures, what is the best solution for you?
At the Mandeville Center for Dental Excellence, Dr. Charles Schof uses Hybridge implant affixed dentures to provide permanent, convenient full-mouth restorations to patients.
Implant dentures combine the security of dental implants with the full-arch coverage of dentures. A Hybridge denture is manufactured and attached directly to multiple implants, usually 4-8, that have been placed in the patients gum and jawbone.
The process begins by removing all remaining teeth from your upper and/or lower arch. Your mouth is then given time to heal.
Once fully healed, Dr. Charles Schof will place multiple titanium posts into your gum tissue and jawbone. At least 4 posts are needed for a secure fit, but the doctor will use as many as necessary to ensure the stability of the implant.
The posts are then given time to heal – usually between 3 and 6 months. During this time, they bond permanently to the underlying jawbone and surrounding gum tissue, mimicking the original tooth root.
During the healing process, arches will be custom-crafted. And once your mouth is ready, these dentures are attached permanently to the titanium posts, providing you with a beautiful smile, and restoring the natural functionality of your teeth.
