Mandeville Porcelain Crowns & Bridges

A tooth that is badly worn or cracked can be beautifully restored with a customized porcelain onlay, dental crown, or dental bridge from Dr. Charles Schof. A cosmetic dentist with a conservative and artistic approach, he can restore your smile to its natural, radiant beauty.  People won’t be able to tell the difference between the restoration and your natural teeth!

What Are Porcelain Crowns?

A dental crown is commonly referred to as a “cap.” It protects a damaged tooth by covering the entire tooth, from the gum line to the biting surface.

Originally, porcelain crowns were made with a metal foundation to support the porcelain and give it strength to withstand biting force. When a porcelain crown is fused to metal, it has to be opaque to prevent the metal from showing through. Eventually, the metal will be visible at your gumline as a dark line.

Today, metal-free porcelain crowns are known for their strength and durability and can provide aesthetically pleasing results, enhancing your smile. But if a full crown is not necessary to restore your tooth, Dr. Schof has an alternative approach that is just as beautiful.

Porcelain Onlays

Dr. Schof’s goal is to preserve as much of your tooth as possible. Because of his conservative approach, he rarely needs to place full crowns. Instead, only the damaged parts of the tooth are removed, and a porcelain onlay is used to cover them. Dr. Schof has PlanScan® technology to offer same day dentistry.  With PlanScan®, he can scan your tooth and create a digital model of it. The model is transferred to a porcelain milling machine to make a high-quality, customized onlay. Usually, in less than two hours, you will leave our office with a beautifully restored tooth.

Advantages of Porcelain Onlays
  • They are durable. With proper care, they can last up to 30 years or longer.
  • Light passes through them, so they have the color and translucency of natural teeth.
  • More of your tooth structure is preserved than with full crowns.
Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are an excellent tooth replacement option, as they fill the spaces left after tooth loss by permanently bonding together your dental crowns with your adjacent teeth. Each bridge is made up of two or more dental crowns that attach to your smile and are secured into place. They are expertly designed to look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth. Your loved ones won’t be able to tell the difference!

First, your teeth are prepared by a careful reshaping of the outer surface to accommodate the bridge. When your replacement crown is ready for placement, it will be cemented to the adjacent teeth on either side.

Versatile and easy to care for, dental bridges are suitable for a wide array of patients. If you need to restore the function of your missing teeth for chewing and speaking and maintain the proper bite alignment, they just might be the perfect choice for your dental needs!
