Who has time to shuffle back and forth to the dentist? With same day dental procedures, you don’t have to. Get things done right the first time and feel certain that the treatment you’re getting at Mandeville Center for Dental Excellence is the treatment you actually need. We don’t practice reactionary dentistry. We have a conservative philosophy that focuses on prevention and good habits, and we’d love to help you achieve the smile you want.

Why

Same Day Dentistry

Same Day Crowns

Dr. Schof uses PlanScan® technology, similar to CEREC®, to restore and protect a broken or damaged tooth quickly and accurately. You will receive a crown made entirely of high-quality ceramic. There is no metal foundation that will eventually darken at your gumline. And all it takes is one appointment.

During your procedure, Dr. Schof will use a handheld intraoral scanner to take 3D digital images of your teeth. Those images are sent to the PlanScan CAD/CAM Restoration System® where a digital model of the crown is created. The PlanMill ceramic milling machine uses the digital model to make a custom crown just for you.

While you wait for your crown to be made, Dr. Schof will clean and prepare your damaged tooth. Once it’s ready, the crown will be checked for proper fit, adjusted and then permanently bonded in place.

Other Benefits of Same Day Crowns

If you take care of your crown, it will last ten to twenty years. Just as with natural teeth, food particles can get trapped beneath your gums or between the crown and adjacent teeth. Brushing and flossing daily, along with regular dental checkups can help prevent decay and periodontal (gum) disease.

Strength tests show that PlanScan crowns are stronger than CEREC, which is one of the reasons Dr. Schof prefers this technology. But you should let us know if you grind or clench your teeth. These habits can shorten the lifespan of any crown, just as they can damage natural teeth. We will offer suggestions to help you preserve your crown.

Porcelain Onlays

Dr. Schof’s goal is to preserve as much of your tooth as possible. Because of this conservative approach, he rarely needs to place full crowns. Instead, only the damaged parts of the tooth are removed, and a porcelain onlay is used to cover them. Dr. Schof uses his PlanScan® technology to scan your tooth and make a digital model of it. The model is transferred to a porcelain milling machine to make a high-quality, customized onlay. In less than two hours, you can leave our office with a beautifully restored tooth.

Advantages of Porcelain Onlays
  • With proper care, onlays can last up to 30 years, or longer.
  • Light passes through them, so they have the color and translucency of natural teeth.
  • More of your tooth structure is preserved than with full crowns.
